<a title=\"Dokkum \u2013 Bonifatius City\" href=\"http:\/\/yachtchartergrou.nl\/tourist-information-friesland\/frisian-11-cities\/dokkum\/\">Dokkum<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\"><strong>Workum<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>is<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>characterized<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>by<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>a<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>long<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>street<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>with buildings<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>on<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>both<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>sides<\/strong><strong>. <\/strong><strong>This was once<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>the water<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>&#8216;<\/strong><strong>Wymerts\u2019.<\/strong><strong> The<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>little houses along the dike have a picturesque reflection<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>in the<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>water.<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Close<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>to the<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>lock<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>there is<\/strong><strong>\u00a0the\u00a0<\/strong><strong>De Hoop shipyard<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>For more<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>than<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>three<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>centuries<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>ships were built and restored here<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Center De Merk<\/h2>\n<p>Merk\u00a0is the\u00a0Frisian\u00a0word\u00a0for\u00a0market.\u00a0It was the\u00a0trading centre for the Workumers.\u00a0\u00a0The construction of\u00a0De Merk\u00a0was well though-out.\u00a0The townhall,\u00a0De Waag,\u00a0the\u00a0church and\u00a0the buildings\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0former\u00a0secular and ecclesiastical authorities\u00a0are\u00a0arranged well together.\u00a0Furthermore, there are\u00a0taverns and\u00a0houses\u00a0of merchants\u00a0and\u00a0important craftsmen.<\/p>\n<p>Workum\u00a0also has\u00a0a large number of shops;
