Woudsend whose mills loom in the distance, is a village which is worth visiting. Originally Woudsend was an agricultural settlement which belonged to the village area of Ypecolsgea. The village developed its independence after the year 1000. The earliest known year in which Woudsend was first named is 1337. in that year a monastery of the Carmelite Fathers was founded there. <\/strong><\/p>\n

– Koudum<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\nDue\u00a0to the convenient\u00a0connections to\u00a0major\u00a0waterways, Woudsend developed as a trade and\u00a0shipping\u00a0settlement.\u00a0The\u00a0Woudsender\u00a0Ee\u00a0is\u00a0 the\u00a0traditional route\u00a0from\u00a0the Zuiderzee\u00a0(IJsselmeer)\u00a0to\u00a0Sneek\u00a0IJlst\u00a0and,\u00a0before\u00a0the damming of\u00a0the\u00a0Middelzee,\u00a0also\u00a0to Leeuwarden.The Center<\/em>
\nThere are\u00a0some\u00a0inviting\u00a0restaurants\u00a0(with\u00a0terraces\u00a0by\u00a0the water)\u00a0to find.\u00a0Around Midstraat,\u00a0small alleys\u00a0and\u00a0shops\u00a0take you\u00a0back in\u00a0time\u00a0(also look\u00a0at\u00a0the\u00a0off-licence\u00a0and\u00a0you can\u00a0imagine yourself\u00a0in\u00a0ancient times). The\u00a0two\u00a0mills\u00a0in the\u00a0village (a sawmill\u00a0and\u00a0a\u00a0corn mill) are\u00a0definitely\u00a0worth\u00a0a\u00a0visit.
